Dr. Geren came from the United States as a young mining geologist who joined a team which discovered iron ore deposits in the Labrador Trough. This led to the establishment of the Iron Ore Company at Schefferville, where as mine manager he became an authority on open-pit design and equipment. He later worked as a consultant in various parts of the world, but returned to the Company as a vice-president. He has also been active in health-care work in Montreal.
