After teaching posts in England and Canada, Dr. Porter was appointed professor of Industrial Engineering at Toronto, where he also served as acting director of the Centre for Culture and Technology and as Academic Commissioner. In 1972 he was founding chairman of the Canadian Environmental Advisory Council and later of the Ontario Royal Commission on Electric Power Planning. He is presently a member of the United States Congressional Advisory Panel on the Future of Nuclear Power.
