One of Canada's leading labour law scholars, he has distinguished himself in many aspects of public life. Whether serving as Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School, as a long-time labour mediator and arbitrator, as President of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, as an advisor to and member of important Royal Commissions and inquiries or in his current position as President of York University, he has contributed ideas and leadership which have produced important reforms in each field.
