He is the former chairman of the Department of Adult Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. During his 30 years as professor and consultant, he wrote extensively on adult education. He has also been prominent in such organizations as the National Advisory Council of Voluntary Action, and his influence has been widely felt as chairman of the televised project "People Talking Back".
