For her contributions as a feminist scholar and social activist, notably for her role in passing a world first, the Non-SmokersÆ Health Act of 1988.
Lynn McDonald has made enduring contributions as a scholar and social activist. Professor emerita of sociology at the University of Guelph, she has written extensively on the impact of women thinkers in the 18th and 19th centuries. She also served as a member of Parliament when her Non-SmokersÆ Health Act of 1988 led the world in enacting legislation to establish smoke-free work and public spaces. In addition, in a labour of love, she published the definitive collection of Florence NightingaleÆs writings, bringing renewed attention to this important female icon for a new generation.
