An expert on the health and social issue of alcohol-related birth defects, pediatrician Kwadwo Asante opened, in September 2000, the Asante Centre for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, the first diagnostic and training facility of its kind in British Columbia. Under Dr. Asante’s leadership, the Centre’s multi-disciplinary team offers ongoing care for individuals and families affected by prenatal alcohol exposure. It also provides training for health care professionals across British Columbia which can be applied in their respective communities. Thanks to Dr. Asante’s dedication, knowledge and expertise, the Centre is gaining recognition for being at the forefront of fetal alcohol syndrome diagnosis in North America.
