On May 28, 2010, Kevin Daniels rescued a neighbour from a burning house, in Lequille, Nova Scotia. Mr. Daniels noticed flames coming from his neighbour's house and ran to investigate. As heavy smoke prevented access through the front door, he ran around to the back. Without a thought for his own safety, he crawled inside and found the victim lying unconscious near the front exit. Despite the intense heat, smoke and limited visibility, Mr. Daniels grabbed the man by the feet and, crawling backwards, dragged him outside. Thanks to Mr. Daniels' brave actions, the badly burnt victim survived and was released from the hospital three months later.
