In the early hours of March 2, 2002, Claude Delorme rescued three people from his brother's burning house, in Grande Cache, Alberta. Alerted to the fire by a neighbour, Mr. Delorme raced across the street and entered the smoke-filled house. Undeterred by the intense heat and flames billowing from the roof, he reached the living room where two teenagers were sleeping. After instructing them to leave the dwelling, Mr. Delorme made his way to the bedroom at the back of the house, and woke up his brother. As they were leaving, they were caught in a flashover which flung them both out through the window. Remarkably, they landed uninjured on a deck outside and ran to safety, moments before the house was completely engulfed in flames.
