On November 26, 1997, Albert McIntosh saved two people from drowning in the Bruce Channel separating McKenzie Island from the mainland in Golden Township, Ontario. A man and a woman were half way across the one-and-a-half kilometre channel when their snowmobile broke through the ice. Mr. McIntosh was also crossing the channel on his way home from work when he heard cries for help some 50 meters away and rushed towards the screams. As he neared the hole, he crawled on the ice in total darkness until he reached the victims. Despite the risks, Mr. McIntosh pulled the man out and together, the two men helped the woman to safety.
