Medal of Bravery
Kyle Sutthery and Rhonda Kennedy saved the life of a man whose truck had plunged into the Saint John River at Andover, New Brunswick, on the night of 15 June 1976. Moments earlier all three had been together in a nearby restaurant. When Kyle saw the accident, he raced to the scene and jumped into the river. With the truck sinking in some twenty feet of water, the rescuer had got the victim only part way through the window when he had to resurface for air. A second attempt also failed, but moments later the victim extricated himself and was held afloat by his friend. By this time, however, both were exhausted and the victim panicked. When Rhonda noticed that they were struggling, she jumped into the river to their aid. Separating them, she then got hold of the victim and pulled him ashore before returning to assist the other.
