Medal of Bravery
Germain Haineault and Albert Martinet saved a woman from drowning near the town on 13 May 1978. The woman and a friend had been in a motor boat which had been dragged by the current and capsized in the St. Lawrence. Hearing of the accident, the two men set out in a rowing-boat, heading first for the woman who was in greater danger of drowning. Manoeuvring through rough waters, they hauled her into their boat where she fainted from exhaustion. They then started upstream, but were taken by the current over a dam and in the direction of the other victim. By this time others were on hand in a motor-boat and saved the friend.
