On April 17, 1976, Luigi Demitri disarmed a youth who was firing at random in a residential area of Burnaby. Mr. Demitri was aroused when a shot was fired at his home. Investigating outside the house, he encountered the sixteen-year-old with a rifle slung over his shoulder, but he deliberately avoided an immediate confrontation. At a moment when they had bypassed each other, Mr. Dimitri sprang at the other. A shot was fired, and in mortal danger to himself Mr. Dimitri disarmed the gunman, wrestled him to the ground and held him until the police arrived.
