Pamela Stewart, aged seventeen, saved a nine-year-old boy who fell off a dock on his bicycle at Port Edward on 24 March 1974. Pamela, strolling by at the time, heard the boy's cries and saw him floating some thirty feet out from shore. Though a poor swimmer she plunged into the cold water and struggled against a strong undertow to reach the boy. After calming him she towed him to the dock, where both were helped out of the water.
