Wilfred Jack Styve, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On June 24, 1972, Wilfred Jack Styve, piloting a small aircraft, rescued a man and a woman whose boat had overturned in the turbulent water of Burntwood River. The couple were victims of an accident in which two boats capsized and two persons were drowned. Mr. Styve, who was following the river on a flight to Thompson, saw two people clinging to an overturned boat and drifting towards a set of rapids. Mr. Styve landed his aircraft on the river and taxied to a point as close as possible to the boat. Stopping the engine, he climbed out onto the pontoon and helped the two victims to climb aboard. This accomplished, he picked up a third person who had reached shore, took off and flew to his destination. Mr. Styve displayed great skill and daring in performing the rescue in such treacherous water.
