Star of Courage
On 25 January 1977, during a fire in Edmonton, Police Cst. Robert Krewenchuk and Louis Craig evacuated several tenants from a two-storey house, including a boy, aged four, and his younger sister. Cst. Krewenchuk, having noticed the fire while driving by, crawled into the house on hands and knees because of the heat and smoke. The boy was found on the living room floor and taken outside. At this point Mr. Craig appeared and the two men joined in alerting several tenants. In spite of being seriously affected by the smoke they persisted and entered a bedroom to save a second child. This child was carried from the building, and shortly afterwards the unconscious mother was rescued from a rear bedroom by the firemen.
