Delmer Courtoreille saved a boy, aged five, from the latter's burning home in the town, on 2 March 1978. A babysitter in charge of the boy and his brother had discovered a fire breaking out in the kitchen and ran out of the house followed by one boy, but with the five-year-old left behind. On the road she flagged down Mr. Courtoreille, who broke a window and called out to the boy. When the child did not respond, he crawled into the smoke-filled living room, found the boy, and carried him to safety.
