Medal of Bravery
Ann Dale-Harris and Margaret Cornish, members of the staff of the Canadian Embassy in Peking, saved the life of a four-year-old when the child fell into the ice-covered moat surrounding the Forbidden City Palace in Peking, on January 7, 1973. The child was playing with a small toboggan which broke through the ice and he fell into water several feet deep. Unable to swim, the boy cried for help. Miss Dale-Harris and Miss Cornish were among a group of skaters in the vicinity. Although they were wearing heavy winter clothing and skates, the two young women jumped at once into the freezing water and held the victim afloat until others pulled them all to safety.
