During the Labour Day Weekend of 1982, thirteen-year-old Lyle Bert Anderson saved his fifteen- year-old cousin from drowning. The Andersons were camping at Cadomin, near Jasper National Park. Early in the evening the two youngsters went for a walk along the McLeod River when Lyle's cousin lost his footing on the wet rocks and fell into the whirlpool at the bottom of the falls. Barely able to keep his head up, he cried for help as he hung onto a rock in the cold water. Seeing his cousin rapidly losing strength, but aware of the perils to his own life, Lyle climbed down the steep rocks leading to the foot of the falls and grabbed his hand. Then, struggling against the pull of the boy's soaked clothing and the force of the swirling waters, Lyle dragged his cousin to safety.
