Medal of Bravery
- Awarded on: April 21, 1987
- Invested on: June 26, 1987
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 24, 1986, in Sheffield Mills, Nova Scotia, Gregory Sundstrom ran from his house to investigate the cause of a loud noise emanating from the body-shop outside. Standing in the centre of the parking lot, he saw a small car jammed against a 1/2 ton truck, both vehicles aflame. Realizing someone must still be inside, Mr. Sundstrom ran to the burning car and opened the driver's door. He found the driver pinned under the dashboard on the passenger side; he pulled him out and over to the side of the road. While Mr. Sundstrom was between the burning vehicles, three small explosions occurred. The driver was hospitalized for 3rd degree burns.
