On November 3, 1988 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Sgt. Brian Hugh Stephenson, who was then an R.C.M.P. Cpl., rescued a woman from a burning house. Sgt. Stephenson crawled through a broken window into a smoke-filled house trying to locate the person trapped inside. Forced to retreat twice for air, due to the smoke, he finally reached the distressed victim and brought her to the window where he was assisted by a fireman.
