Mark Alexander Crowe lost his life while fighting a brush fire at Beaver Lake, Ontario, on June 18, 1988. Hydro lines had fallen down and an elderly man came into contact with one of the 7,200-volt wires and was knocked unconscious. Witnessing the incident, Mr. Crowe, who had volunteered to fight the fire, quickly checked the overhead wires, then went to the man, began giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation and was able to revive him. As he stepped back a live wire fell and struck him on the shoulder blades, electrocuting him. Others pulled both men away from the wires but while Mr. Crowe had succeeded in saving the life of the elderly man, he himself was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
