Medal of Bravery
Early in the morning of May 6, 1987 two individuals parked their car in front of the emergency entrance of a Montreal hospital, then entered the building. When the movements of ambulance attendant, Benoît Des Alliers, were obstructed because of the offenders' vehicle, he asked one of the owners of the car to move it. The individual ignored his request and his companion started a heated discussion with Mr. Des Alliers, during which he showed a gun. Mr. Des Alliers immediately grabbed the individual and yelled to Mr. Guy Belzile, a security guard, that the man was armed. Mr. Belzile rushed up and grabbed the man from behind while Mr. Des Alliers held him firmly from the front. Security guard Serge Brochu came to their assistance and succeeded in disarming the suspect. Ambulance attendant Raymond Desrochers went in pursuit of the accomplice who was suspected of being armed. He caught him on the next floor and succeeded in disarming him. He was joined by Mr. Brochu who helped him to overpower the second suspect.
