Early in the morning of February 4, 1990, Mr. Dickieson lost his life while attempting to rescue his youngest son from a burning house in New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island. Alerted to the fire by his daughter, Mr. Dickieson rushed to the source and tried to extinguish the flames with a wet towel. When that failed, he brought three of the people from inside the house to safety, then returned upstairs to search for his youngest son. By that time, the fire was burning out of control and both died in the blaze.
