On November 21, 1989, in Hanover, Ontario, Scott Robert Stoppard attempted to prevent a four- year-old boy from being hit by a car. The two boys got off their school bus together and eleven-year- old Scott Stoppard was accompanying the little boy to his babysitter's home. When the boys stopped to cross the icy street, the younger boy suddenly darted onto the road upon seeing his mother on the other side. Scott grabbed him by the shoulders to prevent him from running into the traffic but the little boy kept breaking out of his grasp and advancing into the street, pulling the older boy with him. The two were struck by a car and sustained minor injuries but have fully recovered.
