Medal of Bravery
On the snowy, wet night of October 27, 1989, Gerald Joseph Richard Carreau, Paul George Laramee and Morton Bruce Steinhauer rescued two people following a motor vehicle accident eight kilometres west of St. Paul, Alberta. Mr. Carreau witnessed the collision as a pick-up truck slid across the highway into the path of an oncoming car and burst into flame. Unable to open the doors of the burning car, Mr. Carreau ran to the driver's door of the truck and began pulling the unconscious man out of the burning vehicle. At that moment Mr. Laramee arrived and helped to pull the driver out and carry him to the side of the road. After Mr. Carreau had crawled under the burning car to secure some cable, Mr. Steinhauer was able to pull the wrecks apart with his vehicle. Suddenly screams came from the burning truck and Messrs. Steinhauer and Laramee pulled a second victim to safety.
