On April 13, 1992, Ms. Stewart rescued a co-worker from the grip of a jaguar at the Alberta Wildlife Park, north of Bon Accord. Hearing the screams of her co-worker, who was being dragged by the animal, Ms. Stewart immediately began hitting it on the head with a pail. When the jaguar hung on tenaciously, she retrieved a sledgehammer from her truck and struck the animal until its body went limp. Assisted by another person, Ms. Stewart dragged the victim away from the enclosure and into the truck. The animal was subsequently shot by the park manager.
