While at the beach with his family on July 18, 1993, Mr. McMillan rescued two teenage boys from the waters off Quyon Beach, Quebec. Seeing that a boy was caught in the strong undertow, he swam out and brought him back to shore. Told that another boy was in trouble farther out, he immediately swam back and, although tiring, tried to help the other, larger, teenager. The victim panicked and pulled his rescuer underwater several times. Unwilling to leave the youth, Mr. McMillan was eventually able to grab him and hold him above water. Boaters then arrived and towed the two back to calmer waters.
