Fifteen-year-old Reginald Stratton was instrumental in saving his father's life following a mountain climbing accident near Port Alberni, British Columbia, on September 12, 1993. The man had fallen approximately 200 metres down a glacier, over rocks and boulders, finally landing in a narrow chute. While a friend went for help, Reginald Stratton made his way cautiously down to where his father lay, administered first aid and, using his own body heat, tried to keep him warm in the intensifying cold and darkness. Almost five hours later a Search and Rescue team arrived and worked with ropes and pulleys for four hours, under extremely difficult conditions, to evacuate the victim.
