On June 30, 1995, Mr. Meunier pulled a man from a burning car following a traffic accident in Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-Rouville, Quebec. Fire was attacking the underside and rear of the vehicle, which had struck a hydro pole and come to rest in a ditch. Seeing that the driver was still inside, unconscious, Mr. Meunier tried unsuccessfully to open the doors amid the spreading flames. Another passer-by broke one of the windows and Mr. Meunier crawled inside, despite the intense heat. He managed to get the victim out and helped take him to safety to await the firefighters.
