Arms of Anthony Vincent GrassetBlazonGules three ears of wheat in pall reversed, surmounted by a bezant, between three seaxes in pall Or; SymbolismThe red and gold are the colours of the coat of arms of Middlesex, where Dr. Grasset was born, and the namesake of the hospital where he trained. The three seaxes are also from the arms of Middlesex, but placed in a different configuration. The three ears of wheat refer to Les Trois Épis, the farm of Dr. Grasset's great-grandfather in Upper Alsace. The gold disc is taken from the arms of Cornwall and thus honours Dr. Grasset's Cornish ancestry. It could also represent a health-giving pill that Dr. Grasset would have often prescribed in his practice. The shield is placed on the eight-pointed Maltese cross badge of the Order of St. John. Suspended from the shield are the insignia of a Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, and the Canadian Forces Decoration (C.D.) with one bar. Dr. Grasset was subsequently re-classified as a Knight of Justice in the Order of St. John. |
CrestBlazonIssuant from barry wavy Or and Gules, a demi horse Or holding a rod of Aesculapius Gules; SymbolismThe crest honours Dr. Grasset's maternal (Trevelyan) ancestry, as Trevelyan arms usually feature a white horse rising from water. In this case the water has been made "sunlit" (red and gold), and the horse is gold and carries a rod of Aesculapius, the traditional symbol for medicine. |
