Arms of the City of SaskatoonBlazonPer chevron Vert and Or, in chief an open book Argent bound Sable and a cogwheel Argent surmounted by an ear of wheat Or, in base a cross and saltire Sable surmounted by a pellet all voided Or; SymbolismGreen and gold recall the city’s agricultural origins, respectively evoking the growing and harvesting of crops. The white book on a green field is taken from the arms of the University of Saskatchewan, highlighting the connection between the city and its academic seat. The cogwheel and ear of wheat indicate local industries that are predominantly linked with agriculture. The black parallel lines radiating from a hub symbolize the importance of Saskatoon as a railway and distribution centre. The central golden disc (or coin) marks its commercial importance. |
