SymbolismThe Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The wavy blue and white stripes and the sun are derived from the arms of British Columbia. The arching saw-tooth shape likely alludes to a circular saw and thus the importance of the lumber industry to the town, the location of a sawmill. The wavy horizontal stripe and the crescents are taken from the arms of the Scottish Lords of Kinnaird, the town likely having been named in honour of Arthur Kinnaird, 11th Lord Kinnaird, who was a significant stockholder in the Canadian Pacific Railway. The maple leaf symbolizes the town’s Canadian identity.
