Arms of Mehran AnvariBlazonAzure four piles reversed converging towards two mullets of nine points in dexter chief interlaced Or voided of the field; SymbolismBlue is a colour commonly used in Persian art and architecture, while gold symbolizes purity of faith and excellence. The nine-pointed star is a reference to Dr. Anvari’s Bahá’í faith, which has been a guiding principle in both his personal and professional lives. The two stars represent him and his wife, Sima. The four golden triangles allude to his children, while also providing a pun on his surname, which means “radiant” in Persian. Finally, the combination of the stars and triangles evokes the idea of rays emanating from a source of love, which here refers to Dr. Anvari and his wife’s love for their children, as well as to his faith. |
CrestBlazonA simurgh guardant Azure beaked and membered Or, its feathers Bleu Céleste, Gules and Argent, holding in its claw a rod surmounted by a terrestrial globe Azure charged with a snowflake Argent; SymbolismThe simurgh is a mythical Persian bird, used here to symbolize Dr. Anvari’s ancestry. It also reminds him of his grandmother, as she would often read poetry or stories of this legendary bird to him as a child. The simurgh is a benevolent creature with purifying powers, thus evoking Dr. Anvari’s medical profession. The turquoise shade in its feathers is another colour that is often used in Persian art, while red and white represent his pride in being Canadian. The rod is an allusion to the rod of Aesculapius and, therefore, to Dr. Anvari’s medical career, which has been devoted to advancing robotic surgery to help patients in remote areas of Canada. The globe represents his mission to render healthcare accessible to people throughout the world. The snowflake on the globe is an additional reference to Canada. |
