Symbolism

The Jerusalem cross represents Mr. Di Fazio’s standing as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. The hazelnuts symbolize knowledge and wisdom as well as healing and reconciliation, attributes important for Mr. Di Fazio’s work in the role of teaching in both secular and sacred fields.

Symbolism

The rose alludes to Mr. Di Fazio’s birthplace, Windsor, Ontario, known as “the city of roses”. The griffin holding the rose and maple leaf coronet represents Mr. Di Fazio’s strong support for the Canadian constitutional monarchy. The laurel wreath is a symbol of victory, and for Mr. Di Fazio its use here alludes to Christ’s victory over death. A griffin is found in the arms of Agnone, Italy, the birthplace of Mr. Di Fazio’s wife Elena. The eagle part of the griffin also represents Rome, the birthplace of his father, for which in ancient times the eagle was a prominent symbol; the lion part represents the province of Frosinone, Italy, where his mother was born, and which bears a lion in its arms.
