The Maltese cross is taken from the Canadian Forces Fire Academy badge and illustrates the primary role of the Academy, which is to train personnel to fight building, ship or aircraft fires, and to respond to hazardous material and medical emergencies. The central element is taken from the Canadian Forces Nuclear Biological and Chemical School badge.
