Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour, Governor General of Canada, took part in her first-ever Canada Day national noon ceremony at Lebreton Flats Park, in Ottawa, on July 1, where she delivered remarks and presided over a special Order of Canada investiture ceremony.

A symbol of excellence, the Order of Canada pays tribute to Canadians whose contributions have made our country stronger, more inclusive and more dynamic.

The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest honours. It recognizes people across all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to our nation. The motto of the Order, DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM, translates to “They desire a better country.”
Astronaut Jeremy Hansen also took part in the Canada Day ceremony. After the event, he presented Governor General Arbour with a Canadian flag that travelled on board the Artemis II Orion capsule during its historic mission.
