Universities Canada fall membership meeting

October 24, 2023

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, delivered a keynote address at the Universities Canada Annual General meeting, held at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 11 a.m.

The keynote address focused on the disproportionate impact on women, especially young women and women from equity-seeking groups, of disrespectful and abusive online discourse in Canada. Her Excellency’s keynote address highlighted her support of women’s experiences, and outline ways in which allies in a broad range of communities can encourage positive actions and change to help encourage the next generation of women leaders.

The Governor General also participated in a Q&A session with Canadian university presidents from across the country.
