My husband Jean-Daniel Lafond and I are saddened by the news of the accident that took the life of Captain Shawn McCaughey, Canadian Forces Snowbirds Inner Right Wing pilot, whose aircraft crashed during a practice in preparation for an air show scheduled to take place today, in Montana, in the United States.

Recognized for his professionalism and his team spirit, it is with much enthusiasm that Captain McCaughey was undertaking his second year with the Snowbirds. A talented ambassador of Canada, he was proud to show his dedication to the Canadian Forces.

I join Canadians in offering my sincere condolences to his family, his friends and his team members. Our thoughts are with you.
