Simon Brault is a pillar of the arts and culture sector. As director of the Canada Council for the Arts, he redefined its role by focusing on democratization and accessibility, strengthening support for artists, including those from diverse backgrounds and Indigenous communities. A tireless advocate, he worked to highlight the fundamental importance of culture in all spheres of society.

Michelle Good is a member of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation who is esteemed for her work as an activist, lawyer and storyteller. A survivor of the Sixties Scoop and the intergenerational trauma of the residential school system, she has confronted laws that continue to hurt Indigenous communities and advocates reconciliation, truth and respect.

 

Rassi Nashalik, C.M.
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Rassi Nashalik is a trusted voice for Canada’s North. As the inaugural host of CBC’s Igalaaq, the first Inuktitut-language daily television newscast, she helped connect communities and keep residents informed. She is a valued advocate for the preservation of Inuit language and culture, and a sought-after Elder and community advisor.

 

Michel Rabagliati, C.M., C.Q.
Montréal, Quebec

As one of the country’s most prolific cartoonists, Michel Rabagliati has put Canadian comic book culture on the international map. Through his best-known character, Paul, he has showcased the daily lives and aspirations of local people while providing audiences with a glimpse into what contemporary comics can be.

 

Chloé Sainte-Marie, C.M.
Montréal, Quebec


Multidisciplinary artist Chloé Sainte-Marie has been a fixture on Quebec’s cultural scene for many years. Gilles Carle’s muse, she first made a name for herself in the film industry, playing several memorable roles, before making her mark in music. Founder of the Maisons Gilles-Carle, she led a campaign to draw government attention to the daily challenges faced by caregivers.
