Thank you for this touching tribute.

Over the past five years, we have stood with Canadians through pivotal moments—from the COVID‑19 pandemic to periods of transformation in Canadian public life and around the world.

At times, it is difficult to fully grasp the significance of the past five years.

We witnessed the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and a historic moment in our constitutional life: the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. I was proud to organize, on this occasion, the first audience between His Majesty The King and national Indigenous leaders.

We also marked the arrival of a new prime minister and a new chief of the Defence Staff, as well as the inauguration of a new president of the United States.

One might say history has been keeping us gainfully employed.

Throughout these changes, I have remained confident in the strength of our democracy, our institutions and our sovereignty.

That strength rests, in no small part, on you—senators and members of Parliament.

Your work is essential.

Thank you for upholding integrity, inclusion and equality within the institutions that underpin Canada’s democracy.

Whenever I represented Canada abroad or welcomed foreign dignitaries here at home, I did so with a deep sense of pride in these enduring values.

Values that define Canada and set an example to the world.

There is another Canadian value I’ve sought to embody: openness to diversity.

As governor general, I have sought to be a bridge builder for all Canadians.

That is the true spirit of reconciliation.

I have worked to foster meaningful connections between Indigenous and non‑Indigenous peoples, and with institutions such as Rideau Hall.

Because even in moments of uncertainty, Canada’s strength lies not only in its institutions, but in its people—in the bonds we forge and in our shared commitment to moving forward together.

Thank you for your dedication to Canadians.

It has been the honour of a lifetime to serve alongside you, and to serve Canada.

Thank you. Merci. Nakurmiik.
