Official Visit to Nova Scotia - June 27, 2018

The visit to 12 Wing Shearwater concluded with Her Excellency participating in a familiarization flight on board the CH-148 Cyclone.

Upon arrival at 12 Wing Shearwater, the Governor General, the Honourable Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia, and Colonel Sid Connor, 12 Wing Commanding Officer, toured the Shearwater Aviation Museum to learn about the airfield’s rich history.

The pomp and pageantry on display were a true showcase of this longstanding tradition.

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is an annual, week-long event.

In the evening, the Governor General delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the 40th production of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.

The Canadian Coast Guard is Canada’s lead agency for marine search and rescue and environmental response, with 4 500 women and men across the country working to save lives on the water and protect the marine environment.

During the visit, the Governor General met with staff and officer cadets.

On board, Her Excellency toured the vessel and learned about search and rescue operations.

In the afternoon, Her Excellency embarked on a Canadian Coast Guard vessel.

During the flight, the CH-148 Cyclone flew over Peggy's Cove.

The CH-148 Cyclone is the most advanced maritime helicopter the Royal Canadian Air Force has ever employed.

Afterwards, Her Excellency met with instructors and students at 406 Squadron to learn about the skills required to operate and maintain the CH-148 Cyclone.

The 2018 theme of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is “Women in Service.”
