In the afternoon, His Excellency visited discovery 2017, Canada’s leading innovation-to-commercialization conference.

In the morning, His Excellency delivered the keynote address at the 49th annual Ontario Prayer Breakfast.

"The Ontario Centres of Excellence helps promote innovation growth by bridging the gap between businesses, governments, universities and research institutions. They know that working together, pooling our talents is the path to success," said the Governor General.

At Discovery 2017, His Excellency toured the show floor to meet with participants.

The conversation was followed by a question period with the students.

Each year, SHAD provides the opportunity for 800 students from across Canada and around the world to attend a month-long summer program at a Canadian host university.

This fireside chat was part of the launch of SHAD at Ryerson, which is the 13th university in Canada to partner with the award-winning program.

Later, the Governor General and Tim Jackson, President and CEO of SHAD, had a fireside chat on innovation with students attending the 2017 SHAD program at Ryerson University.

The Ontario Prayer Breakfast is an annual opportunity for the Christian community to gather together to support members of the provincial parliament and city councillors in prayer.

Hosted by the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), Discovery brings together key players from industry, academia, government and the investment community, as well as entrepreneurs and students seeking collaboration opportunities.
