His Excellency then officially opened the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference and delivered an address to the 250 participants.

A discussion about leadership was organised as a side event of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference. Premier Paul Davis delivered remarks on this occasion.

Their Excellencies are in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from May 21 to 23, 2015.

The Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (GGCLC) brings together Canada’s emerging leaders from business, labour, government and community sectors for a unique two-week experience aimed at broadening their perspectives on work, leadership, their communities, and their country.

The Governor General then addressed the business community of St. John’s on the importance of innovation and leadership in sustaining prosperity and facing global competition. The event was organized by the St. John’s Board of Trade.

Accredited nationally with distinction, the St. John’s Board of Trade is a non-partisan business advocacy organization that is the principal voice of business for 900 members in the St. John’s area. Its mission is to improve the local business climate, enhancing its members’ ability to do business through advocacy and member services.

The discussion took place at the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The speeches were followed by a questions and answers period with the students.

Ms. Lorraine Mitchelmore, Chair of 2015 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference, also delivered remarks. Ms. Mitchelmore is the Shell Canada President.

The event was broadcast to over 300 schools in the region.

The Governor General also discussed leadership and education.

While in St. John's, His Excellency took part in the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference and delivered speeches to students and members of the business community. Her Excellency visited various organizations that promote the inclusion and development of these frequently marginalized members of society.
