Visit to Northern British Columbia - Day 2

The Governor General visited the Haida Heritage Centre at Kaay’ Llnagaay which celebrates the living culture of the Haida people. The centre is an award-winning Aboriginal cultural tourism attraction located on Haida Gwaii on British Columbia’s Northwest coast.

His Excellency took part in a panel discussion to talk about what can emerge when progressive universities work in tandem with small, proactive cities.

Before visiting the facilities of the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) in Prince George, the Governor General met with Daniel Weeks, President and Vice-Chancellor of UNBC.

Located in the spectacular landscape of northern British Columbia, UNBC provides undergraduate and graduate learning opportunities that explore cultures, health, economies and the environment.

Upon his arrival in Haida Gwaii, the Governor General was greeted by Peter Lantin, President of the Council of the Haida Nation.

In the evening, His Excellency took part in a gathering where he had the opportunity to speak with members of the Skidegate community.

Through their language, art and stories, the Haida people share their relationship with the land and sea, which has helped to shape, nourish and sustain them.
