Launch of Storytime at Rideau Hall

Mrs. Pinel told the story of "Cats' Night Out" by Caroline Stutson to families and their children.

Suzanne Pinel, also known by many generations as "Marie-Soleil", won the hearts of children attending the event.

The Governor General and special guests readers Roch Carrier and Suzanne Pinel, kicked off Storytime at Rideau Hall, an annual outdoor family activity that celebrates reading and literacy.

The book remains a timeless favourite for young and old.

Over the summer months, every Friday and Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Storytime at Rideau Hall will be hosted in collaboration with Frontier College, a Canadian non-profit organization that promotes literacy. Volunteers will invite visitors and families to­ settle in under the Reading Tent to ­read children’s books and participate in fun literacy activities.

Mounted in a specially designed vehicle, the interactive learning space features interpretative panels, multimedia elements and unique artifacts.

Families and visitors also had a chance to visit the It's An Honour! cross-Canada travelling exhibit. Making a special stop at Rideau Hall, the exhibit introduces visitors of all of ages to the Canadian Honours System, which recognizes people for their extraordinary achievement, bravery, valour and service.
