Unveiling of CFIA Emblem
The Governor General participated in the unveiling of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) new heraldic emblem during a ceremony at CFIA headquarters in Ottawa. His Excellency was joined by the Honourable Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and Mr. George Da Pont, CFIA President.

His Excellency signed the Letters Patent that granted the heraldic emblem to the CFIA.

Mr. Bruce Patterson, Deputy Chief Herald of Canada, proclaimed the grant and described the symbolism of the emblem to CFIA employees gathered for the occasion.

The CFIA worked with the Canadian Heraldic Authority to create an emblem that captures, through symbolism and heraldic principles, the Agency's history, role as a science-based regulator, and contributions to Canadians.
