Philanthropic Culture Summit

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, delivered an address at the Sommet sur la culture philanthropique [Philanthropic Culture Summit] on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. At the breakfast meeting, he shared his vision of philanthropy in Canada and talked about the importance of giving, to managers, administrators, practitioners and people actively involved in a variety of philanthropic culture practices.

Ms. Diane Ellison, Special Advisor to the President and CEO of Imagine Canada, also delivered a speech.

The Governor General then took questions from participants.

The Institut Mallet hosted this important event, which took place at Université Laval, on November 12 and 13. The theme of the summit was Culture philanthropique : visages et transformations [the many faces and evolution of philanthropic culture]. The summit provided an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge, to reflect on the diversity of philanthropic culture, and to identify recent transformations and challenges in a variety of fields that impact philanthropy.

The institute was established in November 2011 by the Sisters of Charity of Quebec and Université Laval, in collaboration with the City of Québec and the provincial government. It is an independent organization devoted to advancing philanthropic culture.
