Order of Merit of the Polices Forces Investiture Ceremony

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Commander level (C.O.M.) to Chief Clive L. Weighill, C.O.M., from the Saskatoon Police Service, Sask. This is promotion within the Order.

Bob Paulson, C.O.M., Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Principal Commander of the Order, also spoke during this event.

"Those of you being honoured here today as investees in the Order of Merit of the Police Forces have made outstanding contributions to policing services in Canada and in other parts of the world," said His Excellency. "You ensure our safety and make us feel secure in our cities and towns. You put your own lives on the line for us every day, maintaining peace and order in our communities. You are ambassadors to new Canadians and to youth. You are compassionate counsellors in times of great difficulty and grief."

The Governor General, who is chancellor of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, bestowed the honour on 1 Commander, 13 Officers and 47 Members.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Member level (M.O.M.) to Inspector Lise Roussel, M.O.M., from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Fredericton, N.B.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Member level (M.O.M.) to Inspector Gerard E. Francois, M.O.M., from the Calgary Police Service, Alta.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Member level (M.O.M.) to Superintendent James William Carroll, M.O.M., from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, St. John’s, N.L.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Member level (M.O.M.) to Chief Superintendent Janice Rose Armstrong, M.O.M., from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Surrey, B.C.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Officer level (O.O.M.) to Deputy Chief William Francis Moore, O.O.M., from the Halifax Regional Police Service, N.S.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Officer level (O.O.M.) to Director Mario Harel, O.O.M., from the Service de police de la ville de Gatineau, Que.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Officer level (O.O.M.) to Dr. Anna Gray-Henschel, O.O.M., from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ottawa, Ont.

His Excellency presented the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Officer level (O.O.M.) to Deputy Commissioner Craig J. Callens, O.O.M., from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Vancouver, B.C.

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces was created in 2000, to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members and employees of the Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community. Three levels of membership with post-nominal letters reflect long-term, outstanding service: Commander (C.O.M.), Officer (O.O.M.) and Member (M.O.M.).
