Official Opening of the 14th World Scout Moot Canada 2013

The Governor General was greeted by flags from around the world upon his arrival at Parliament Hill.

As chef scout of L’Association des scouts du Canada and patron scout of Scouts Canada, the Governor General addressed the crowd about the importance of serving their communities, as well as of working together to help build a smarter, more caring world.

More than 2 000 scouts representing 80 countries attended the event.

The Republic of Zimbabwe was represented by one energetic scout, Mr. Masango Roderick Warakula.

This year’s World Scout Moot takes place for the first time in Canada.

"Principles of community well-being, of serving others, of leadership, fellowship and scholarship—these are the ideals that unite us and they are worthy of celebration," His Excellency stated. "The means by which you pursue these principles helps explain why scouting remains relevant today, more than 100 years after its inception, and why so many young people, like yourselves, gravitate to this movement."

Organized by L’Association des Scouts du Canada, this gathering brings together more than 2 000 young adults from around the world, from August 8 to 18, 2013.

Before his departure, His Excellency signed the book of honour.

The national anthem was sang at the end of the event.
