The 2013 Canada Summer Games

Throughout the day, Their Excellencies cheered on young athletes from across Canada at various events, including rowing, beach volleyball, soccer and basketball.

Ms. Monique Leroux, Chair of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group, also spoke during the closing ceremony.

The Canada Games are presented every two years in a different province or territory, the Games alternate between winter and summer sessions.

"As a fan of sports of all kinds, I am delighted that these games have brought out the very best this country has to offer," said the Governor General. "As you prepare to travel home, I hope that you will be proud of your accomplishments, and that you are leaving these games with fond memories—something we will all be taking away from the 2013 Canada Summer Games."

Athletes cheered upon their arrival at the closing ceremony held at Jacques-Cartier park.

Their Excellencies met with some of the athletes as they arrived at the closing ceremony.

More than 3 400 young Canadian athletes competed in 20 disciplines at this year's Games.

Since 1967, the Canada Games have played a central role in the promotion of sport and physical activity in our provinces and territories, uniting more than 100 000 athletes.

Their Excellencies then presented the gold, silver and bronze medals to the women's beach volleyball teams.

The team from British Columbia won over Ontario's team in the men's beach volleyball finals.

Following the rowing finals, Their Excellencies met with a few of the athletes.

Their Excellencies also met with a group of volunteers working at this year's games.

Alexander Johnson and Brigitte Boisjoli entertained those in attendance during the closing ceremony.
